Waorani Expedition

 Itinerary

Day 01  canoe the Shiripuno river

This morning, we meet in Coca and drive for two hours to the reserve entrance. From there, we embark on a three-hour canoe journey into Waorani territory. During the scenic ride, guides will share rainforest insights while you spot wildlife like toucans and macaws. In the afternoon, we will arrive at our campsite, nestled next to a local Waorani family.

Day 02  Hunting Technics

Today, a short canoe ride and a two-hour hike bring us to the Clay Lick, a mineral-rich mud pit. This hotspot attracts local wildlife seeking essential minerals to supplement their seed diets, making it prime hunting territory for the prized local delicacy, the peccary. After wildlife viewing, we return to the village on foot. We spend the afternoon with hunters learning about blowguns, darts, and the natural sedative curare used for hunting monkeys, before winding down for the evening.

Day 03 Cononaco River

In the early morning, we begin canoeing down the Shiripuno and Cononaco rivers, actively scanning every corner for wildlife. We frequently spot diverse bird species, including macaws, toucans, parrots, kingfishers, herons, and hawks. With a bit of luck, we may even encounter caimans, otters, capybaras, and majestic jaguars relaxing along the riverbanks. After enjoying a delicious lunch right on the boat, we will continue our scenic journey onward to visit the home of another welcoming Waorani family

Day 04 Anaconda Day

This is a true adventure into the wild, delving deeper into the enchanting jungle. A canoe ride, short hike, and paddle bring us to a black water lagoon where anacondas rest on sunny shores. Famous for a 2017 BBC documentary about these snakes, the area is also ideal for spotting prehistoric hoatzins and kingfishers. Following exploration, we will relax before exploring local spiritual culture and speaking with residents. At the lagoon, we can even try catching fish, likely piranhas.

Day 05 Waorani Farewell

Our final day immerses us in the daily lives of tribal women as we join their everyday tasks. We will help make kene, a fermented yucca or chonta beverage, and potentially participate in seasonal yucca harvesting. To conclude our amazing adventure, the tribe bids us adieu with a colorful, emotion-packed presentation of traditional singing and dancing. You will also have the chance to purchase authentic local handicrafts. Buying directly from the tribe directly supports and sustains local families
