Itinerary
Day 01 Puerto Ayacucho
Gather at Caracas domestic airport and fly to Puerto Ayacucho, the vibrant capital of Amazonas state nestled along the majestic Orinoco River. Meet your expert guide and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, discover the bustling local markets and rich indigenous culture of the town before visiting the striking Tortuga National Monument and the famous natural Jungle Slide. Return to the hotel for the evening to rest. (-/-/-)
Day 02 Boca de Autana
We start our ground journey to Samariapo port on the Orinoco River where our motorized wooden dug-out canoes with a thatched roof will be waiting for us. We navigate the Orinoco River and enter the Sipapo , and we will notice the difference between the brown and the black waters of each. Every now and then we stop and take a refreshing bath in the beautiful waters. After lunch, we will reach the Autana River and set up camp in the Indian village. (B,L,D)
Day 03 Zorro Camp
Continue three hours up the Autana River to the Atobi indigenous community, where you will transfer to smaller canoes to navigate Manteco Creek for two hours. Afterward, embark on a three-hour jungle trek to our base camp at El Zorro, a spectacular 60-foot waterfall framed by pristine rainforest that is ideal for diving and refreshing swims. Unwind and spend the night camping under the canopy. (D, A, C)
Day 04 Leopoldo Lake
After a hearty breakfast, continue your immersive jungle trek for one hour to reach the mystical Leopoldo Lake, discovered in 1849 by the renowned German explorer Robert Schomburgk. Spend ample time exploring its unique ecosystem and swimming in its striking black waters, steeped in local lore. Afterward, hike back to El Zorro camp to relax and unwind for the remainder of the afternoon. Sleep in tents. (B, L, D)
Day 05 Ceguera Shaman
2 hour hike to our boat and navigate to arrive at “Raudal de Ceguera” where we will spend the night. At sunset if we are lucky the local shaman while permit us to witness his Tarantula eating ceremony. After dinner we will spend the evening enjoying stories at a bonfire. (B,L,D)
Day 06 Uripica Jungle Hike
Breakfast and back to our boat and navigate 15 minutes to the trail head and begin 3 hour hike to the summit of Uripica mountain and enjoy a overlook of Autana the sacred mountain that represents the origin of all the food and animals of the world. Great opportunity to spot monkey, Poison dart frogs and other wild animals. Back to Ceguera camp.
Day 07 Puerto Ayacucho
Bid farewell to our gracious hosts from the Piaroa community as we embark on our scenic return navigation downriver to Puerto Ayacucho. Check in to your hotel for a relaxing evening. (B, L, -)
Day 08 Depart to Caracas
Ground transfer to airport for plane to Caracas. (B/-/-).
